From IT Help Desk to Senior TechnologyOne Consultant – Josh Brandsema’s Journey of Growth and Expertise

Originally from Tasmania, Josh Brandsema spent the first decade of his career at Devonport City Council, working on the IT help desk, mastering business administration and eventually becoming the council’s TechnologyOne expert.

Josh then transitioned to Manningham City Council in Victoria, where he focused on Property & Rating, gaining valuable experience in this field. A pivotal meeting with Rob Nancarrow at Manningham inspired Josh to shift his career towards consultancy. Josh admired Rob’s precision in managing enterprise systems, his all-around expertise, and his approach to solution delivery. Rob played a crucial role in building Josh’s confidence, providing the impetus to move from application support to consulting. Reflecting on the transition, Josh notes,

“It’s a lot more fun. Support has its limits, whereas consultancy projects are more varied.”

Josh values the remote work options in consulting, the exposure to diverse clients, and the various interpretations of using systems, which ensure that no two days are the same. The continuous opportunity to learn keeps him engaged and motivated. He finds great satisfaction in requirements gathering and problem-solving, stating,

“When you see a client realise how a difficult problem has been effortlessly resolved, it’s immensely rewarding.”

At Lánluas, Josh enjoys the helpfulness of his peers and the social aspects of the workplace.

“It’s a very supportive environment. We have a group work chat that we can use if we need to pick anyone’s brains. We also catch up in person quarterly for activities like bowling, trivia nights, or dinner.”

In his spare time, Josh enjoys renovations, programming, online gaming, and socialising with friends. 

July was a standout month for Josh, as he celebrated his three-year milestone at Lánluas while also earning a well-deserved promotion to Senior TechnologyOne Property & Rating Consultant.

He looks forward to the transition of Property & Rating to the new TechnologyOne CiA interface, seeing it as a positive step toward improved process interaction.

“The core concepts of process improvement will remain the same, how you interact with the system on a day-to-day basis will change. While the new system may lose a portion of the technical side of things, I think it’s moving in the right direction.”
